About Sorta Summer House

Nicole and Truen have added a little bit of their personality to the Sorta Summer House. This space has been meticulously crafted and curated for your enjoyment.

The guesthouse is a private oasis in the city. It's surrounded by 13 fruit trees and tall Chinese Mountain bamboo. It's a quick walk to Woodlawn Park, great coffee, a bakery, pizza, whiskey bar, a brewery, seasonal farmers market, and minutes from Alberta Arts District.

“Nicole and Truen have created a beautiful haven that feels incredible to cozy up in after a day of exploring Portland. Thoughtful design touches, delightful amenities (sauna, hammock chair, outdoor shower with grape vine views), and a warm welcome for the hosts were just some of the reason I wish I lived here permanently. Don't miss this stay!”

About the space

This guesthouse is thoughtfully designed with eclectic housewares art and tapestries curated and collected in our travels. The large plants and windows make it feel very relaxing and comfortable and the reclaimed wood, big comfy couch, hanging chair and Eames lounger make it feel like a vintage magazine ad and allow for private nooks to relax and drink coffee or read a book.

This guesthouse was built by a local finish carpenter who has remodeled many well known North Portland's businesses. He even repurposed wood boards from the original on-site carriage house in our ceiling.

The detached 700+ sq. ft. 2-story guesthouse is tucked behind the main house and has it's own secluded back yard space. A quiet hammock area under the tall bamboo and showering cherry blossom tree keep you shady. When in season, we encourage you pick any ripe fruit to enjoy.

In the loft is a the queen-size Englander Hotel collection mattress and hypoallergenic comforter with bright, soft linens. White cotton bath blankets and bath robes add that luxury hotel perk.

Speaking of the experience, the unexpected delight is the private outdoor shower and Finnish sauna. You’ll be surprised by the simple joy of showering in the open air, either under the stars or the morning sun, shaded by the grape vines overhead. Treat yourself.

The kitchen has a mini fridge stocked with fizzy waters and local beers for relaxing travelers. There are all the simple home necessities you'll need for a short stay, high-end coffee brewing equipment thoughtfully recommended by our favorite local coffee roaster, and gas range with oven for meals in. Though we hope you take advantage of the many great restaurants close-by.

We’re within walking distance to a seasonal Farmers Market, Woodlawn Coffee & Bakery, Firehouse Restaurant, Breakside Brewing, P's & Q's Market, Tamale Boy, Tough Luck Bar, and more when the weather allows you to take a longer neighborhood stroll.
